James Kennedy makes plays and musicals and things in-between. His work has been produced and presented by Actors Theatre of Louisville/The Humana Festival of New American Plays, The Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Upstart Creatures, Emerson College, Dartmouth College, and Superhero Clubhouse, as well as sold out concerts at National Sawdust, Speyer Hall, and the Green Room 42. In addition to his freelance work, he was the composer-in-residence with Playing for Others in Charlotte, NC for five years and spent six summers as an Artistic Associate at The Orchard Project. He has received residencies from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Everwood Farmstead, and The Orchard Project to develop his work. He is the recipient of the Rod Parker Playwrighting Fellowship and the Betsy Carpenter Playwrighting Award, as well as a finalist for the Princess Grace award. Originally from North Carolina, he now lives in New York City.
